Q: Did you just throw some undiluted crystals directly onto wet paper?
A: Yuppers. see photos below. Crystals on wet index card, wet flower and wet leaves.
Q: Same question, to get the lumpy effects, you don't dilute then?
A: Yes. Just sprinkle the crystals onto your wet surface. let them melt or not. use a heat tool to speed up drying time, or don't...there really is no right or wrong way, nor is there any shortage of ideas.
Q: On the tag with the stamp of an eye and the quote down the side....over on the right hand side of the tag at the edge, it looks like you have some something shiney. Is this just glitter, or embossing of some sort?
A: Glitter. I sprayed the index card with sealer and then immediately spinkled the glitter and some stuck and most didn't. Then when it's dry if you rub the glitter it kinda "smoothes" out and isn't so "chunky" looking.
Q: ON the fist tag, there are little bubble thingys. How did you achieve these?
A: Dimensional magic stuff. Just drop some onto your surface and let dry. easy as pie [well, i wouldn't find pie easy because i don't bake, but for those of you that do, you MUST know how easy it is right?]
Q: Did you use it on a layout already? [referring to the tag of Willow and Jesa]
A: Nope. I'll just put it into the basket of projects [remind me and i'll photograph that basket]. I personally think i like the small projects better than layouts in albums. It [the basket] is far more fun to go digging in/through, that's for sure!
Q: Or is it just resting (for the time being) only a lovely pic with a stem of red flowers? {referring to the tag of Willow and Jesa}
A: Hmmmm, i never noticed that until you pointed it out Karen. That's actually a file folder for work that was on the counter when i photographed the tag. Does look quite pretty doesn't it? I make have to add some pop of colour...i don't know, maybe some blue? That would look stunningly pretty with all the walnut and grunge look.
Q: Can I add to your list and ask a question?
A: Sure. Why the heck not.
Q: I have the mailart you sent me a couple of years ago and on it it you have used, what looks like a calendar stamp, maybe embossed?
A: Oh my gosh Jwels, that is SO one of my favourite stamps...I bought all these wood block and metal vintage stamps a few years ago. I sold most of them. I kept a couple of the calendar ones because I LOVED them so much and I knew I would use them over and over and over...
Q: The print is so small but so neat! How did you do that?
A: I did stamp and emboss that. yesssireee.
Q: If you ever come to the uk, you will let me know wont you?
A: Absolutely!!!
Q: Do your girls share this passion G? Do they scrapbook/make art with you?
A's: No. No...not yet. I think they might one day. I don't know though.
Q: Will your Etsy shop still be open after you sign off on the blog??
A: Good question. I don't know the answer to that yet. My first response is "probably not", but one never knows!
Q: Do you think you will ever come back to blog land???
A: Extremely unlikely. Did i already answer this question?
Q: Is this really final and permanent??
A: Yes. [i'm sure i've already answered this question as well]
Q: You truly amaze me at the way creativity oooooozzes out of you........AND you practice law.??!!
A: Wow! Thank you very much for that very nice comment/email Melody! you are far too kind! YES, i do practice law. ;)
Q: Will those of us new-beeee's to you still be able to access your stuff/site once you are no longer blogging.....or does all of what you've done just disappear?
A: No. It'll all be gone.
Q: I guess what I'm asking is: if I bookmark pages and save them with my favorites, will they no longer be accessible after you've closed up shop?
A: They will NOT be accessible.
Q: you said "any questions?"
A; yes, I did.
Q: In your litle movie of the walnut crystals S&T there are some typewriter things in the background?
A: yes there are.
Q: What are they?
A: they are these...
They are metal typewriters, [flat back] so I can glue them onto stuff. AREN'T they GREAT???? I LOVE them!

S & T
"Rub-ons" my way
________________________________
- I designed an image/quote.
- I then printed it onto a transparency condusive to MY printer...that means if you have an ink jet printer, make sure you buy transparencies that are for ink jet printers. That seems logical, but you would NOT believe how many people don't know that.
- choose your "recipient" paper [that's the paper you want you want to put your "rub-on" onto]. In this case, i used a plain old tag...exciting i know.
4. Take a small amount of gel medium and put it right onto you surface onto which you will do your transfer.
5. DO NOT put the gel medium onto the transparency thinking "that'll work just as good". It won't.
6. I used too much if i were to tell you "how much". I simply spread it around until I had a nice even thin coat and discarded the excess [i put it back into the bottle, i did not throw it away].
7. I used the Liquitex brand and of course i buy it in LARGE bottles as I use so much and it lasts forever if you keep the lid on and keep your bottle clean.
8. SEE THE NICE EVEN VERY THIN COAT of Gel medium as shown below? try to use a really soft paint brush to spread the gel otherwise the streak will show up in your rub-on (really, these are transfers, but since I make my own i call them RUB-ONS).
9. Place your transparency PRINTED side down, onto the tag with the gel medium spread evenly and thinly over it.
10. VERY GENTLY, burnish the image onto the tag. DO NOT rub hard or you will smear the ink on the transparency especially if you used too much gel. There's no need to rub really hard, just use fairly firm pressure. You can see the ink smearing if you're rubbing too hard. So start at the edges to get a feel for the amount of pressure required.
11. Lift the transparency to check your rub-on to see if it's working. If some didn't transfer, lay it back down and rub a little harder.
12. You can see in the below image, some streaks from my brush. I don't care about that. If i wanted a PERFECT image, I would have simply glued the transparency down...right?! DO NOT leave it on the tag too long or it will start to dry and you will tear the top layer of the tag off...Gel medium is an adhesive afterall...
13. Rub-on complete. Isn't the blue gorgeous? THAT is what i LOVE about making my own rub-ons...I can make them as large or small, colour or black...MY FONTS and styles and images...it's truly ENDLESS!

I used a quote for the photo of Jasper
Same process...thin layer of gel medium where i want to put the quote; lay the quote printed side down into the gel; rub gently but firmly, making sure not to smear the ink; lift the corner to see if it's working; if it is, finish the stupid thing; take your transparency off and voila! Your "rub-on" is complete.
Nice thing is you can size your quotes/images exactly how you want them to fit where you want them to fit.

I used another rub-on for this index card of Ollie
In the photo below, you can see where some portions of the border didn't transfer. That's OKAY. I didn't want a perfect transfer!
HOW CUTE IS THAT LITTLE POOCHIE????!!!! :)
Gives the simple index card layout a little bit of dimension and interest I think...

Below is what I did with the tag
"there is not an angel in heaven
who would not give her wings
to take the place of a mother
here on earth"

The 3 projects
The only limits to what you can do are those inside your head. It is RARE that this method doesn't work for me...of course, just like everything else I seem to do, it takes a bit of practice but once you "get it", you'll never have problems again.
QUESTIONS?

COMING THIS WEEK:
S & T
Solvent transfers
pce
now that you told me I can see where it used to be a round spot rather than just a halo. i don't know if I could be called a saint because I am a mother, too much bad in my mix.
I did ask the guy at the store for the right transparencies and I thought I tried both sides. BUT I will give them another go. I have my own printer now so..... I guess I am also going to need something more that just text edit that I have on my computer. It doesn't allow me fonts or sizes or colours.
I will head down to Yamada Denki and find the Canon printer guy to get some of the right stuff.
have a good rest of the week Gloria.

LOL Lisa! That "halo" was a big splat of alcohol ink right on my face and I wiped it off and it formed the ridiculous "halo"!!!! I ALMOST took the picture off and started over. I guess I should be saying: "every mother is a saint" as though i intended the halo effect! Hahahahaha.
You MUST USE transparencies for inkjet printers. You then print on the "rough" side of the transparency. [if you can't tell the difference, close your eyes. Rub each side and you can feel the difference. OR, the transparencies I used to buy for my inkjet printer, always had a strip of paper at the end of the tranparency that peeled off. The side the strip was on was the NON-PRINTABLE side. Does that help? Your ink is smearing because You're printing on the wrong side. :)
Your ink will 100% guaranteed NOT SMEAR if you have the right transparency [inkjet] and print on the right side[rougher side], 100% GUARANTEED!!!
I wish I had every person that wanted to learn these things, with me for 1 week, all together and we'd just spend the week doing all these different things together so i could help you all when you hit the snags that make you throw your hands in the air and scream, "this isn't working! I GIVE UP!!!"
hopefully you all just keep at it and keep trying and trying until you do get it!

I forgot to mention. Your halo is quite bright. It has me wondering about the steps: if becoming a saint is a step towards being an angel.

I love your rubons!
Will have to do another search for transparencies that will work... I gave up on them a while back as the ink kept smearing and then I didn't have a printer for so, SO long.

Thanks Karen!
I'm sure you've all seen me do these techniques sooooo many times already over the years, and it feels like I'm posting stuff you guys already know how to do, but I want to make sure everyone gets their questions answered!
I answered your questions in this post Wendy. :)
